The Rainbow city
The Arcomagno beach, shaped by the erosive activity of the sea on the rock, owes its name to the imposing stone arch that delimits the access to the sea. The beach, a blue flag since 2019, is formed by an opening in the rock that led to the creation of a small sandy bay: a true natural paradise surrounded by dense vegetation.
Famous for its natural and architectural beauties, San Nicola Arcella is located on hills with a splendid view of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The Ancient Saracen Tower is known as Torre Crawford. It is named after the last owner of the tower: Lord Francis Marion Crawford, an American writer who fell in love with the bay of San Nicola Arcella while exploring Italy aboard a small boat accompanied by his wife and a sailor. Crawford used to stay in the Tower, where he got his inspiration for his stories, some set in the small Calabrian centre.
